Everything important for your stay.

Clear answers are here.

To give you all the important information at a glance (and allow us to take care of your comfort), we have collected (almost) everything that guests like you have ever asked us. Your answer is sure to be among them!

What rooms are available?

With shared bathroom

Our classics. With everything you need, a sink in the room and a shared bathroom with plenty of privacy on the floor.

Always affordable. Always safe.

The family room is our little ace in the hole.

Unlike our large ensuites, it doesn't have its own bathroom, but it has all the more space for families or small groups of four to five people – and at a price that remains really fair.

This allows families or small groups to experience London on a smaller travel budget.

And that's exactly the idea behind it.

But: We really only have one...

Whether for adventurers, school trips or groups of friends – our dormitories for 6 to 16 people are the perfect place to experience London together.

Here, your group sleeps together in its own area, the shared bathroom belongs only to you – without any outside guests.

Simple, honest accommodation that does exactly what it's supposed to do: offer you an affordable base in the middle of London. This is a place to sleep, plan and set off – as befits a real dream factory.

Please understand that, unlike other hostels, we do not rent out individual beds in the dormitory. That would be a bit too cosmopolitan for us...

With private bathroom

Our pioneers: These rooms were our first with a private bathroom – and they were a complete success from the start. Quickly booked up, they gave us the impetus to create even more ensuite rooms.

They are a bit more compact than our "Ensuite Comfort" rooms, but offer everything you need as a couple. While the Comfort rooms are also designed for three people, these are perfect for two – cozy, practical and equipped with a private bathroom.

Completed only in 2023 and our largest ensuite rooms: The Ensuite Comfort rooms offer plenty of space – so much that even a sofa would fit in them - or four beds instead of two.

Bookable for one to three people, they are your choice if you want to have a bit more space in London.

Our Largest: More space is not possible: Our Ensuite Apartments are the most spacious accommodation in our hostel - not with several bedrooms, but as one large room,

With a private bathroom, a small kitchen and a refrigerator, it offers everything that families or groups of up to five people need for a relaxing stay in London.

There are no compromises here – just arrive, unpack and feel at home.

Booking and preparations

You need a valid passport – an identity card is no longer sufficient since Brexit.

In addition, you must apply for an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) before your trip – this is an electronic entry permit that is applied for and paid for online.

Without a valid ETA, you will not be allowed into the country, even if your passport is in order.

The application is quick online and costs £16 (as of September 2025) – but remember to do it in good time before departure!

An approved ETA is valid for two years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first.

You will usually receive a decision within three working days, often even faster.

Children and babies also need their own ETA.

You have the choice of applying for the ETA via the UK ETA app or the GOV.UK website. Both options are officially recognised.

You can always check in from 12 noon, your room is ready. An announcement of when you will arrive is not necessary.

Arrivals after 9:00 PM are considered Late Check-in and cost £15 (please book in advance). If you arrive after midnight, please book the Midnight Check-In for £20.

Check-out is until 9:15 AM. If you leave later, you can leave your luggage with us free of charge and safely until the evening and enjoy your last day in London freely.

Yes! You can use the online check-in in our booking system.

You will find the link and your PIN in your confirmation email.

This only takes a few minutes, saves time on arrival and we already have all the data ready.

Yes, that is possible! Please note, however, that a late check-in fee of £15 applies.

The reason? Our reception is no longer regularly staffed late in the evening, and a late check-in requires additional effort.

So, if you arrive after 9 PM, be sure to book your late check-in along with your room.

Are you arriving after midnight? Then please select the Past Midnight Check-In when booking.

With us, you pay securely and conveniently online – directly when booking. Many payment options are available to you:

  • Credit cards (Visa, MasterCard),
  • Apple Pay & Google Pay,
  • SEPA Direct Debit,
  • PayPal (also with balance),
  • as well as Klarna – including instant bank transfer, invoice, or instalment payment.

Processing is done via encrypted and verified payment services. We do not store any payment data ourselves – your data remains protected.

Important to know:
The total amount is due upon booking – regardless of whether you arrive in two weeks or ten months.

This secures your spot and allows us to plan effectively. This is common in our industry – and fair.

Should your plans change:

You can cancel free of charge up to 21 days before arrival at any time – after that, a small fee applies. You can find the exact regulations in our
Terms and Conditions.

Only groups with a special agreement pay on site.

Unfortunately, we cannot accept American Express.

Basically, we are quite generous and try to save you cancellation costs.

We often manage to re-let a cancelled room – but we cannot guarantee this. Then we also waive cancellation fees. Otherwise, the following applies:

You can cancel free of charge up to 21 days before arrival. You can find the exact regulations in our
General Terms and Conditions.

Tip: Travel cancellation insurance

Travel cancellation insurance usually costs only a few euros and covers the cancellation costs incurred in many cases – but only under certain conditions:

  • Illness (proven with a certificate)
  • Accident
  • Death in the family
  • Unforeseeable events, e.g. job loss, serious damage to property

Important: The insurance does not pay if you simply don't feel like it anymore or the weather is bad. There must be a valid, documented reason.

Of course, fresh towels await you in your room. Please note: If you come to us in the dormitory as part of a group trip, you as a group may bring your own towels.

It is best to coordinate this with Anthony.

No, you don't have to worry about that!

It's called "Bed & Breakfast" – not "Mattress & Breakfast".

Bed linen is of course included in the price and will be freshly prepared for you on arrival.

Make yourself comfortable!

In the case of large groups in the dormitories, different agreements may be made in some cases.

No, the price remains the same. Breakfast is always included because we want to give all guests a good start to the day – whether you use it is up to you.

Your invoice will be sent automatically by email after departure from our system.

Do you need a company invoice? Please provide us with your company details and (if available) the VAT ID before check-in – then we will issue everything correctly.

By bus

From Stansted Airport, buses of the company "National Express" regularly run towards London.

The bus and coach station at Stansted Airport is located directly opposite the terminal, only about a 2-minute walk away – well signposted and easy to find.

Line A7 or A9?

A7 (Victoria Coach Station)

  • also passes through Whitechapel, but is slower and makes more stops (including Waterloo, Southwark, Mile End).
  • Advantage: runs 24/7, extremely reliable.
  • Disadvantage: Can take significantly longer if London traffic is heavy.

A9 (Aldgate / East London)

  • is the more direct line towards East London, stops include Stratford, Canary Wharf, Whitechapel and Aldgate.
  • Advantage: faster & more direct to Wynfrid House.
  • Disadvantage: does not run quite as often as the A7, but still regularly.

To get to Wynfrid House, it is best to take the A9 – it is more direct. However, the A7 is also an option if the departure time is better or you have to travel at night.

From Whitechapel to Wynfrid House

  • Get off at the Whitechapel stop.
  • Continue in the direction of the bus.
  • After a few meters you will pass a large mosque.
  • Immediately afterwards, turn left into the street and then immediately right again into Mulberry Street.
  • You will then see our Wynfrid House on the left.

Pitfall: Book the bus via the airline?

If you book a "Coach Ticket" to London directly with Ryanair (or also with EasyJet & Co.) when booking your flight, it looks practical at first glance: You have flight + transfer in one.

The catch? You don't get a seat guarantee. The ticket is just a voucher for National Express. If the bus is full, you have to wait for the next one.

  • Outward journey (airport → city): Just annoying – you arrive later in London. You can do it, it usually works out well, especially in the evening.
  • Return journey (city → airport): Dangerous – without a guaranteed seat you can miss your flight! Then you can book with Ryan or EasyJet again...

Safer (but not cheaper): Book your ticket directly with National Express. There you choose a fixed departure time, your seat is guaranteed, and a combined round-trip ticket is usually cheaper.

Stansted Express

The Stansted Express is the fastest way from the airport to the center of London. In approx. 45 minutes you are at Liverpool Street Station. From there it is only a few minutes by underground to Whitechapel.

The Stansted Express is faster than any bus and often surprisingly cheap with online booking. Ideal if you want to get to London stress-free and without traffic jams.

The trains run every 15 minutes and are much more comfortable than the bus: WiFi, power sockets and enough space for luggage are included.

  • Online booking is worth it! Tickets are usually much cheaper online than on site.
  • Buy a return ticket right away – this saves extra money and you don't have to worry about anything else.
  • Couples & groups get special discounts, as do families with children.
  • Children: Under 5s travel free, 5–15 year olds only pay half price.

Our tip: Book your ticket online as early as possible. Then you get the best prices and your return journey is already secure.

The bus is cheaper in the basic tariff, but with online offers the Stansted Express can be just as cheap – and it is always faster and more comfortable.

From Liverpool Street Station to Wynfrid House

  • Take the Hammersmith & City (pink) underground line towards Barking.
  • Travel only one station to Aldgate East.
  • Leave the station in the direction of travel.
  • You are now on Whitechapel Road and see a small park that replaces a block of houses.
  • Go through the park – behind it you will immediately see the church with the bell tower.
  • To the left of it you will find house number 20: Wynfrid House!

Please note: Prices, timetables and conditions are subject to change. Sometimes stops are relocated or changed. We make every effort to keep our directions up to date.

Please always check the latest information directly with the provider before your trip – so you are on the safe side.

Saving at the wrong end? Gladly.

National Express buses regularly run from Gatwick Airport to Victoria Coach Station. Sounds practical, but in most cases it's not a good idea:

The journey takes around 1 hour 40 minutes – often much longer during rush hour. The bus is cheaper than the train, but unreliable and involves a lot of traffic jam risk.

If you want to arrive on time or catch your return flight safely, you should rather take the train. If, contrary to our advice, you still want to try it, here are the details:

  • Advance bargains: Book online early = the lowest prices (from approx. £6–8 per route).
  • Return trip: Booked together often cheaper – but beware: with these tickets there is no seat guarantee. In the worst case, you will not get on your bus, which can be really dangerous on the way back to the airport.
  • Families & children: Seasonal promotions possible (e.g. "Kids go free"), regularly 5–15 year olds pay half price, children under 5 travel free.
  • Coachcards: Young people, seniors, or people with disabilities save about 1/3 on Standard & Flex fares with discount cards.
  • Groups: For 3+ people, there are special discounts and package deals that can lower prices.

From Victoria Station to Wynfrid House

  • Underground: From Victoria Station, take the District Line (green line) towards Upminster or Barking and travel to Aldgate East station. The journey takes about 15 minutes.
  • Exit the station in the direction of travel. You will now be on Whitechapel Road and see a small park that fills a former block of houses. Walk through this park.
  • You will then see our church with its distinctive bell tower, and to its left, number 20 – Wynfrid House!

Insider Tip: Thameslink

From Gatwick Airport, you'll get to London much faster by train than by bus – and you're guaranteed not to get stuck in traffic.

  • Gatwick Express: Runs non-stop to Victoria Station in approx. 30 minutes. Convenient, but the most expensive train (around £21–22 per journey). It's not worth it for most guests.
  • Southern Railway: Also to Victoria, takes approx. 35–45 minutes, slightly cheaper than the Express. Advantage: Tickets are more flexible, trains run very regularly.
  • Thameslink (Recommendation): Runs every 10 minutes directly to London Blackfriars, also via London Bridge or Farringdon. Usually costs only £13–16, often even cheaper on weekends. From Blackfriars, you can change directly to the District Line (green) towards Aldgate East – perfect for your journey to Wynfrid House!

Please note: On the Thameslink website, you might also see Gatwick Express tickets, but the actual Thameslink trains do not go to Victoria.

From Blackfriars to Wynfrid House

  • Alight at Blackfriars and proceed to the Underground (direct connection).
  • Take the District Line (green) towards Upminster or Barking.
  • Travel to Aldgate East (approx. 12 minutes).
  • Leave the station in the direction of travel. You will be on Whitechapel Road and see the small park (Altab Ali Park).
  • Walk through the park – behind it is the church with the bell tower, and to its left, Wynfrid House, No. 20.

Our Tip: It's best to take the Thameslink: cheaper than the Express, barely slower, and with a direct connection to the District Line. This way, you'll get to Wynfrid House quickly, comfortably, and stress-free.

By Underground (London Underground)

  • Piccadilly Line: At Heathrow Airport, take the Piccadilly Line (blue line) of the Underground towards Cockfosters.
  • Change to the District Line: At Hammersmith station, change on the same platform to the District Line (green line) towards Upminster or Barking.
  • Travel to Aldgate East: Travel to Aldgate East station.
  • Exit in direction of travel: Exit the station in the direction of travel.
  • Walk to Wynfrid House: You will now be on Whitechapel Road and see a small park that fills a former block of houses. Walk through this park.
  • You will then see our church with its distinctive bell tower, and to its left, number 20 – Wynfrid House!

Alternative: Elizabeth Line

Elizabeth Line: From Heathrow Airport, you can also take the Elizabeth Line (formerly known as Crossrail), which takes you directly to Whitechapel Station. However, the journey is significantly more expensive, between £13 and £15.

Walk from Whitechapel to Wynfrid House: From Whitechapel Station, it's just a few minutes' walk to Wynfrid House.

Notes

Journey time: The total journey time is approximately 50 to 70 minutes, depending on the chosen route and time of day.

Cost: Prices vary depending on the time of day and payment method. Journeys are usually cheaper with an Oyster Card.

Accessibility: Please note that not all Underground stations in London are step-free. Check in advance if you require step-free access.

By DLR (Docklands Light Railway) & Bus

At London City Airport, take the DLR (Docklands Light Railway) towards "Bank". Enjoy the ride on the fully automated train with views of the modern Docklands!

  • At City Airport, take the DLR (Docklands Light Railway) towards "Bank". The station is located directly in the terminal.
  • Travel to Limehouse Station (approx. 15 minutes).
  • There, change to one of the buses 15, 115 or 135 towards the City.
  • Alight at Henriques Street bus stop (one stop before Aldgate East).
  • Walk across the street in the direction the bus was travelling, turn into Adler Street, and then take the second right (Mulberry Street).
  • To your left, you'll see the church with the bell tower – Wynfrid House, No. 20, is right next to it.

The entire journey takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes, depending on connection times.

The easiest way to pay is with an Oyster Card or simply contactless with your bank card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay.

It's important that when you board and alight in London, you briefly hold your card against the yellow reader – this is called "tap in" and "tap out".

Only then will the correct fare be calculated; otherwise, the system will automatically charge you the most expensive fare. It's also convenient that the DLR is fully step-free and all buses have ramps.

This way, you can easily reach your destination even with luggage or a pram.

Driving to London: What you need to know

If you drive to Wynfrid House, please be aware of London's charging zones. There are three relevant areas with different rules and times.

Congestion Charge (City Centre Toll)

Applies Monday–Friday 7:00 AM–6:00 PM and Saturday, Sunday & Public Holidays 12:00 PM–6:00 PM and currently costs £15 per day. Wynfrid House is located outside this zone – you only pay if you drive into the centre.

ULEZ – Ultra Low Emission Zone

Applies 24 hours a day (except on December 25th). If your vehicle does not meet emission standards (min. Euro 4 petrol, Euro 6 diesel), a charge of £12.50 per day applies. Wynfrid House is located within the ULEZ.

LEZ – Low Emission Zone

Mainly affects larger vehicles (e.g., lorries, motorhomes, buses). Normal cars are usually not affected.

Blackwall & Silvertown Tunnel (from April 7, 2025)

If you come to London by car (e.g., via Dover or the Eurotunnel), your sat nav will almost always guide you through the Blackwall Tunnel to get to the East End. Wynfrid House in Whitechapel is also located there.

Since 2025, there has been a new Silvertown Tunnel right next to Blackwall. It mainly serves to avoid traffic jams. So you don't need both tunnels – but depending on traffic, your sat nav might send you through Blackwall or Silvertown.

Both will get you on the right route to Wynfrid House.

Between 6:00 AM and 10:00 PM, you pay a toll for both Thames tunnels (Blackwall and Silvertown).

There are no barriers – cameras automatically record your license plate.

Prices:

  • With AutoPay outside peak hours: usually £1.50 per journey.
  • During peak hours: up to £4 per journey.
  • Peak hours are weekdays 6:00 AM–10:00 AM northbound and 4:00 PM–7:00 PM southbound.

What is AutoPay?

AutoPay is an online account with Transport for London (TfL). You register your vehicle with its license plate and payment details.

Each time you drive through the tunnel, the system recognises your license plate and automatically debits the fee. This way, you don't have to pay anything manually and avoid fines.

Additionally, AutoPay is slightly cheaper than single payments.

Without AutoPay, you must pay for each journey by midnight of the next day (online or by phone). If you forget, a hefty fine will be incurred.

Important: Times and prices are subject to change. Check your route and license plate directly with TfL before your journey. (As of: August 29, 2025)

Our tip: Auto Pay

To ensure you don't forget any fees and avoid fines, you should register in advance for the official Auto Pay service from Transport for London (TfL).

The "Auto" has nothing to do with your car, but rather with the automatic calculation during your journey. Auto Pay is free – and saves you hassle, time, and money. Auto Pay applies to:

  • Congestion Charge
  • ULEZ
  • LEZ
  • Tunnel tolls (from introduction)

Once registered, the system automatically recognises your license plate via cameras when you pass through – and charges correctly. Foreign vehicles can also be registered without any problems.

Summary: What you need to do

  • Check if your vehicle meets ULEZ requirements.
  • Register your vehicle for Auto Pay with TfL in advance – at least 2 days before arrival.
  • Avoid the Congestion Charge Zone if you want to save on fees.
  • Passage through the Blackwall Tunnel will then also be charged via Auto Pay – significantly better than fines for unawareness.

If you consider all this, nothing stands in the way of a stress-free arrival by car!

About Payment.

In the future, you will pay securely and conveniently online with us – directly when booking.

Until then, you can comfortably pay upon arrival with Maestro or credit card – however, not in cash, not even in British Pounds. Unfortunately, we cannot accept American Express.

Soon, even more payment options will be available to you:

Unfortunately, we cannot exchange money – for security reasons, we only keep as much cash as absolutely necessary.

However: We'd be happy to recommend a reputable currency exchange that we trust. Just ask us!

However, you're most likely best served by withdrawing cash from an ATM. More on that in the next answer.

Very important: Please do not exchange money at the airport! Exchange rates there are often poor, and high fees apply. If you exchange money at a bank in Germany, you usually get a fair rate.

Withdraw cash instead of exchanging

If you need cash, it's often cheaper to withdraw it directly from an ATM in London.

Customers of Postbank and Deutsche Bank can withdraw cash free of charge at Barclays ATMs – you only pay the current exchange rate, but no additional fees.

Other banks with good conditions for withdrawals in Great Britain:

  • Commerzbank – Partner bank: NatWest (fees vary, check beforehand)
  • Unicredit/HypoVereinsbank – Partner bank: Lloyds Bank (often cheaper than currency exchange offices)
  • DKB and ING – Free withdrawals possible with certain account models

If you are unsure, check with your bank beforehand about the conditions for withdrawals abroad.

Yes, in London you can pay almost everywhere with a debit or credit card – often contactless and with no minimum amount. But it's not that simple:

Beware of fees and unfavourable exchange rates

Many banks charge a fee for foreign transactions, which is particularly significant for debit cards (formerly EC cards).

Depending on the bank, this can mean that for paying for a meal deal of £3.99, an additional €1.50 flat fee for foreign transactions is added – and trouble when the bank statement arrives.

What does it cost to use debit cards abroad?

Most German banks charge a foreign currency fee of between 1.75% and 2% of the transaction amount for payments in Pounds.

Especially with debit cards from Sparkassen and Volksbanken, fixed fees per transaction may also apply.

Some banks offer better conditions:

  • Postbank & Deutsche Bank: Customers can withdraw cash free of charge at Barclays ATMs, but still pay the foreign currency fee when paying with a debit card.
  • Commerzbank & HypoVereinsbank: Often also with fixed fees per transaction or an unfavourable exchange rate.
  • Direct banks like DKB or ING: With certain account models, payments are free of charge or at least cheaper.

Risk: Automatic conversion to Euros

Some merchants and ATMs offer to pay directly in Euros instead of Pounds.

That sounds practical, but it's almost always more expensive because the provider sets the exchange rate – often with high mark-ups. The right choice is always: "Pay in GBP (British Pounds)" instead of Euros

Should you just tap your card everywhere?

While card payment is convenient in London, it can quickly become expensive if the debit card is used for every small purchase.

If your bank charges a foreign currency fee per transaction, then check if it's not cheaper to withdraw a larger sum in cash once.

A travel credit card without foreign currency fees can be a sensible alternative to avoid unnecessary costs.

It's worth checking your bank's conditions before your trip to avoid paying unnecessary fees.

Rooms and Stay.

Throughout Great Britain – and also with us – it can happen that the water in the rooms runs via an intermediate tank. Therefore, it is not designated as official drinking water.

Don't worry: It is completely safe for daily hygiene – i.e., for brushing teeth, showering, or boiling water.

In our lobby, you'll find extra filtered water if you want to be absolutely sure about drinking it.

By the way, this is not uncommon in London: Many traditional houses offer separate drinking water access – simply as an additional convenience.

Yes, of course!

Our Wi-Fi is free and available throughout the house. The connection is fast and stable – perfect for browsing, streaming, or video calls.

You'll receive the access details at check-in.

Yes! In our large common room, there are not only books and games, but also a TV with SKY.

Perfect if you want to relax after a long day in London or watch live football.

We're certainly no party poopers, but a little order is necessary. We are a hostel, not a hotel – but the parties stay out in the rest of London.

From 10:00 PM, it gets comfortably quiet here. Please help keep the evenings relaxed: close doors gently, whisper in the hallway, and enjoy music or movies with headphones.

Outside the house, everyone appreciates it if it gets a bit quieter from 10 PM – that way, everyone has a good night.

You are welcome to continue sitting together in the common room on the ground floor even after 10 PM, as long as it remains peaceful – and the last one out, please turn off the light.

Of course! With your key, you have 24/7 access to the hostel – no problem.

Please remember to be quiet so that other guests are not disturbed.

Especially at night, we appreciate it if doors are closed gently by hand instead of slamming shut loudly. Thank you!

Wynfrid House is a protected and secure place – and not by chance.

Our house is accessible only to guests, the doors are secured, and with your key, you can enter at any time. This way, you can be independent and feel safe at the same time.

Our neighbourhood, Whitechapel, is a vibrant, multicultural area with many shops, markets, and restaurants.

As in any metropolis, there are busy streets and quieter corners. During the day, there's always something going on, and many people are out and about in the evenings too.

London is one of the safest major cities in the world, but a healthy degree of awareness is necessary.

We recommend staying on main roads at night and keeping an eye on valuables – a precaution that applies in any major city.

The Departure.

Yes, but we are not a classic hotel with 24-hour service.

Our staff are on-site during the day, and there are fixed check-in times in the evening.

Access to the hostel is possible 24/7 with your key.

All rooms have heating, but no air conditioning.

London can get warm in summer, but fans are available.

In Great Britain, Type G sockets are used, which are not compatible with German plugs.

However, some of our rooms have Euro sockets, so you can plug in your devices directly.

If you need an adapter, you can get one from our reception.

In rooms with private bathrooms (Ensuite), there are also hairdryers. If you don't find one there, check the wardrobe or chest of drawers – it's usually not directly in the bathroom.

If you have a room with a shared bathroom, just let us know – we'll be happy to help!

In the shared bathrooms on the corridors, fixed hairdryers are installed, which you can use at any time.

No, there are no refrigerators in the rooms, nor do we have communal refrigerators.

However, if you need to keep medication cool, we can, of course, do that for you.

If capacity allows, we'd also be happy to chill a beer for you – just ask!

Of course. Especially upon departure or for some entries, some people still need to quickly print their boarding passes.

However, nowadays you also receive boarding passes and flight tickets digitally on your mobile phone.

Simply send your document by email to Anthony!

As always with such things: "5 minutes beforehand" can be tight...

Unfortunately, laundry is not provided in our house – we focus entirely on what we do best: good, simple accommodation and a warm start to the day.

But don't worry: In our neighbourhood, there are good and reliable options to wash your clothes or have them washed.

If you need help or are unsure, please feel free to contact us – we're here to help!

Yes, you are welcome to borrow an iron and ironing board from us.

No. We want all guests to feel comfortable with us – including those who don't like smoke.

Better not – just like smoking, vaping is also prohibited in the rooms.

We know that the smell doesn't linger for long, but our smoke detectors are quite sensitive and quickly trigger the house alarm with vape smoke, and then you'll find a lot of new friends in front of the building that you don't know yet...

You don't want that - not like this.

Food and groceries.

The tap water in the rooms is not intended for drinking. You can use it without hesitation for brushing your teeth – but please don't drink it.

This is the case in many houses in London and throughout England: Often the water in the bathrooms runs through intermediate tanks and is therefore not always fresh from the main line.

But don't worry: You will find a drinking water fountain with fresh water at the reception – you can tap some around the clock.

TESCO is a supermarket that is omnipresent in London. There are two branches within walking distance, the nearest is exactly 50 meters or 65 steps from our front door.

The "Meal Deal" is your cheap and uncomplicated lunch and a must-have for London tourists.

Here's how it works:

For £4 to £5, depending on the store, you can get a small menu in many supermarkets such as Tesco, Sainsbury's or Boots that you put together yourself:

  • A "main course": Sandwich, wrap, sushi or pasta salad
  • A drink: Water, cola, juice or even smoothies
  • A snack: Chips, chocolate bar, yogurt or fruit

The whole thing is often cheaper than the individual prices – so perfect for thrifty people!

Especially practical: Tesco Express can be found almost everywhere in London, including a few meters from Wynfrid House.

Many British supermarkets have customer cards, which are often called Club Card, Loyalty Card or Reward Card.

These cards are free and often offer exclusive discounts – especially on food, drinks and the popular meal deals.

How does it work?

You register online or in the app (e.g. at Tesco, Sainsbury's or Boots).

When paying, scan the card or app at the checkout. You immediately get discount prices – often significantly cheaper than the normal price.

Our tip: The TESCO Clubcard

Particularly popular because many items are much cheaper with the Clubcard. Register online or get it in the app.

Psst: Maybe Anthony will just lend you his...

Is it worth it?

Yes! After just 1–2 purchases, you've made the savings. The Clubcard is particularly worthwhile at Tesco, because almost all popular items – from meal deals to snacks – are cheaper with it.

Tip: The cards are free and you can use them directly on your mobile phone. So why not get one right away?

Not directly. In our lounge you will find a small corner with a microwave, a kettle and everything you need to warm something up or make a tea.

Our commercial kitchen must remain reserved for our employees for hygienic and legal reasons.

Yes, of course! If you want to have something delivered to the hostel, Deliveroo is the best choice in Whitechapel. They offer a large selection of local restaurants and fast delivery service.

If you would like to have something delivered to the hostel, simply enter our address:

Wynfrid House
20 Mulberry Street
London E1 1EH.

Please note: Please be so kind and accept your order yourself at the front door – we are usually there, but usually on the move in the house ourselves.

There's a lot! You can find this in our "Tips" section.

We are not fans of that – we want the rooms to remain clean and pleasant for everyone.

You can enjoy your meal in peace in the lounge almost around the clock.

Coffee and tea are available for breakfast. If you would like a tea or coffee later in the day, you will find everything you need to prepare something yourself in the lounge.

Everything about departure.

Enjoy your breakfast in peace in the morning before you pack and check out.

We ask you to vacate your room by 9:15 a.m.

If you need a little more time, just talk to us the evening before – we're sure to find a solution!

Of course! If you are not leaving London until the evening, you can store your luggage with us free of charge and enjoy the day in a relaxed manner.

Please remember to pick it up by 9:00 p.m. at the latest.

Yes, of course! Especially with cheap airlines, every kilo too much can be expensive. There is a scale in our lobby that you can use at any time. If you need help, just let us know!

We are here for you!

Was your question not included?

No problem! Just write to me. I speak fluent German, Italian and of course English! Group inquiries are also welcome here. Reservations for up to 9 people should please be booked online.
